Cleaning without chemicals

I cannot possibly pay what they want for the imported environmentally friendly cleaning solutions. But I have kids, so I don’t want all the chemicals in my house. Here’s what I do: I buy plain white vinegar (in Jenny Lou’s and other stores). I mix it half and half with water in an empty spray bottle. I use that instead of chemical fluids on my kitchen counters and in my bathrooms. If the toilet or shower is really grungy, just don’t add water – use the vinegar full strength. It will smell “vinegar-y” while the room is damp, but the smell disappears just as soon as it dries. Try it – it’s cheaper, and lots better for the environment and the kiddies…

Re: Cleaning without chemicals
One big warning:
VINEGAR RUINS MARBLE!!!!
We used vinegar/water on our windows and glass table, and anytime a drop got on the marble floor it would erode it... so now we just use water.
Our floors, window sills, counters are all marble, and it took about two weeks to realise this was happening... hopefully the landlord doesn't notice when we hand it over...
