Effecient ways to weight control... ?

I'm angry because I put on weight during the winter and can't seem to lose it. I do yoga regularly and I try to eat healthy, but it's not working! I tried going to the gym but that didn't work for me either. I'm so annoyed 'coz summer's here and I can't fit into my old summer clothes. anyone has a more efficient way to lose a couple of extra pounds?

Re: Effecient ways to weight control... ?

i've never tried yoga and altho i've heard plenty of good things about it, i can't help but think continuous movement is what works best - things like running, swimming, playing basketball or soccer.

of course diet plays a factor, too. cutting down on red meat/carbs is probably a good idea, and boosting up on veggies and fruits can't hurt. also, drink lots and lots and lots of water! studies show drinking water helps in losing weight: http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/2006-10-24-water-diet_x.htm

it's also important to stay positive and be patient! results don't happen over night - it probably takes at least two weeks to a month before you really start seeing results...

Re: Effecient ways to weight control... ?

not sure if this is a post-pregnancy weight question.... but PILATES... it builds up your core muscle strength - all those tummy muscles you lost being pregnant... I did it for a while, and it was amazing... BUT i found it waaaaay more effective with a 1:1 teacher, not in a large class, because if you do the moves wrong, there is no benefit.
And remember, 9 months on, 9 months off (at least!!)

I've also read about easy shortcuts that help you shed weight without thinking about it too much (if you're busy).

1. Eat more slowly (you'll feel fuller on less food)
2. Use smaller plates and cups (people are unlikely to go back for seconds)
3. Drink a lot of water

It's not the fastest method, but it should help!

Also, listen to music when you work out to stay motivated and to work out longer; studies show that music increases work out time and pace. The beats-per-minute provide a timing cue so that your body works more efficiently. Look at this article for ideas for the best workout songs (with research to back it up!).
