Some advice for a to-be aussie expat please !

Hello all,

We are coming over to visit Beijing for a few days, considering a relocation from Sydney.

My kids are 8 and 6 years old and currently attends a Montessori school in Sydney. Initially I was excited to find the International Montessori school of Beijing. But now after hearing all your wisdom about being close to school and work etc, I think I need to reconsider....

So, my current interests are in the area of Chaoyang, near palm springs perferrably. Would some one suggest a few schools for us to visit that are of walking distance (so the morning rush is not that painful, I am not a morning person at all !). I know Eton provides elementary classes in Global Trade Mansion, is it far to walk from Palm Springs ?

Main concern is to ensure my kids can return to Sydney's Montessori School system easily after a few years in Beijing, hence my preference to go with a Montessori school.... but the classes don't seem to go very high into the 9 to 12 years ago groups. I wonder why ?

Many thanks !

Re: Some advice for a to-be aussie expat please !

Beijing's traffic is quite nasty and the sidewalks can be spotty (and sometimes non-existent) ...

sorry i don't have specific geographic information regarding school locations but you'd be doing yourself a huge favor to make sure your home is located within walking distance of the school you'll send your little one(s) to.

I'm assuming the reason the montessori schools tend not to have higher grades is because its a relatively recent phenomenon here (maybe last 10 years)

Palm Springs to Global Trade Mansion is not walkable, probably about 2-3 kms, and through heavily trafficked areas.
