Anyone shared experience in Beijing United Family Hospital

Hi everybody,

I am new on tbjkids but following thebeijinger.com for a while already.
Following the advice of the first gyno I saw in January atfer becoming pregnant, I went to Beijing United as the insurance provided by my company can pay for it.
But it will be the 3rd visit end of April for the 20th week and I am quite dissatisfied with their services. For these three appointments made long time in advance, as I have to orgaised with my work, there has been three changes either time or doctor.
And today they said that I will not be followed by the same doctor (initially was doctor Farhad) unless we decide from the beginning to have csection. I can understand there are some matters of urgency in medical care but seems that 3 times for 3 appointment is a bit too much.

This is my first pregnancy, of course I don't know what is normal or not in what I feel and need to be supported, I think, by someone who gradually know you a little at least. I was thinking having a baby should be a human adventure as well as medical care but seems that in BJU the price paid, even if one of the highest in town, is not including the human service too...

Do you think it is worthy to change hospital as I am still early in pregnancy (less than 20 weeks)? Or would it be the same elsewhere? I can not speak chinese (or just enough to take a taxi!) so I really need full english speaking staff.
Any advise or experience to share will be welcome.
Thanks!

Are you kidding? Do you have some sort of medical condition that would require you to plan to have a c-section in advance?

I know a lot of people who have given birth at BJU but have never heard of them requiring anyone to agree to a c-section in advance...

No I'm not kidding, the nurse that phoned me this morning asked me: do you plan to have csection or natural birth? I was amazed saying that normally you don't "choose" a csection if no medical reasons that you can not expect in advance, right?
Don't know if this lady became upset because I started to be angry about how they treat me as if I was just a piece of meat sending me here and there without caring about anything, and firstly not even imagaginating I could have a job so that I can not change all my appointments just to ajust their timetables...

Re: Anyone shared experience in Beijing United Family Hospital

I have heard Dr. Brooks at BJU is a good man, calm, older and very experienced in coaching moms who desire natural birth.

As for me, I just home birthed!

Yes, my gyno from Bailey and Jackson first advised me to be followed by Dr Brooks, but he is too busy it seems and it is even more difficult to see him than other doctors. I wish I could be followed up to the end by this gyno of Jackeso and Bailey because she really cares about people and helped me a lot at the beginning. Unfortunately it is not possible.
I think I maybe have to get used to that situation...

Re: Anyone shared experience in Beijing United Family Hospital

When my wife and I were going for prenatal treatments at BJU, we actually tried to see as many different doctors as possible -- as it is impossible to predict who will be on duty when your body tells you it's time to give birth -- and particularly if this is your first birth, it's very reassuring to have a familiar face as your attending physician rather than someone you've never met before.

Having said that, if you choose to try somewhere else, you might try Amcare, which I've heard good things about.

Re: Anyone shared experience in Beijing United Family Hospital

it is true, I also gave birth at Beijing United. It's not that they suggest you to have a C section, they only warn you that at the time of the birth the doctor that always followed you may not be on duty. So they suggest that you get accustomed to all the "possible" doctors and if you absolutely want your doctor the only way is the C section.
When I gave birth I was followed by Dr. Kung (I don't know if she is still there) she was very good, but when I gave birth there was Dr. Farhad, she was good too.
For the problem of the resheduling of the visits, it's true, they often change , in other departments too. It's annoying.

Anyway take it from me, when you give birth you don't really notice which doctor is there, the midwives do all the job.
