Great (free) play area for young chidren -- 5th floor of Shin Kong Dept Store

I had the bad luck of being stuck in the light drizzle last night at rush hour (which of course paralyzed traffic as if it was Armageddon and the city's fleet of 40,000 taxis were either occupied or had gone home to wait out the apocalypse) with baby in tow.

We waited for about 30 minutes and finally abandoned hope and decided to hoof it over to the Shin Kong mall over there in eastern CBD.

On the 5th floor there's a shopping area for baby goods and childrens toys, and hidden in the back is an absolutely free kids' play area.

While not nearly as large as places like A-Z Kids or Fundazzle, it was big enough for probably 20 or so kids to run amok comfortably. They have 2 separate areas, one for kids over 100cm and one for kids under 100cm. They have a little video area for tykes to watch the tube and also have well-equipped baby changing areas.

Nice!

Ditto, crj.

And Admin - if you get stuck near Chaoyangmenwai some time, Yue Show Fashion Market (with Paris Baguette on street level) on the corner of Chaoyangmenwai and the street that runs north up to the Blue Zoo, has a kids play area on the kids' clothing floor (level 3, from memory).

It's free but only for kids under 1.3m. There's also a crafts table for minimal cost and an English language (and some other languages like Indonesian, Spanish, French and gasp! - Mandarin) book stall in the aisle running parallel.

May you never get stuck in the rain in Beijing again, let alone with a baby!!

This above all; to thine own self be true.
