Hazzards

My wife has been exposed to some hazzards previously to knowing we were pregrnant. One, a cat, we had a pet cat that took some time to find a new home for. We did find a new home for it but found out a week later that we were three weeks pregnant. Two, her office recently started renovating and although they work at night the paint odors are still present during the day. Three we also just found out that she has a liver condition and it can be cleared by several shots but they are not healthy to take while pregnant. Now my nurse friend in the US says these are nothing to worry about but I'm still rather anxious. Can anyone shed any light on this situation?

Re: Hazzards
cat: no problem
Look up toxoplasmosis on the internet. My understanding is that the hazard is for a FIRST TIME infection. Chances are if she's ever had cats in her lifetime she somehow has already had toxoplasmosis and so is safe. Even with a primary infection, nothing is certain in terms of outcome. Do your own research, but I would not worry one bit about it.
Renovation fumes, well that's a real risk however the chances are still that EVERYTHING is fine. Get an IQ Air GC multi Gas for her office in the meantime.
Now the liver condition is something. Can I ask what the condition is? And what the shots are and how they are supposed to help? I never heard anything like that before. Even Hepatitis B is self limiting most of the time, for those with a healthy immune system.

Re: Hazzards
I really think you should drop in to see your GP to give you peace of mind. Googling these issues online is all good and well, but the internet is not an all-knowing nor completely reliable source of information. A direct professional opinion is so important if you are that worried.
It's so easy to get nervous in early pregnancy, especially if it's your first child - but it's also great that you are so conscious of elements that may harm your baby, and are ready to act on them. Remember, though, these little beans are hardy folk! and it is more than likely your baby is just fine, even exposed to these levels of "toxins". Nonetheless, I would suggest going to chat to your GP for a chat, and also working out a way your wife could avoid these paint fumes. If I were in early stages of pregancy, I wouldn't want to sit in paint fumes all day long (in fact, I wouldn't want to do that at ANY time!).
With regard to the liver issue, seek a second opinion from a medical professional even if your current doctor recommends the shots (which is an odd recommendation if the shots are considered to be harmful during pregnancy).
Good luck and congrats on your pregnancy!

Re: Hazzards
Thanks for the advice, I did look for lots of resources anywhere I could, and so you know it is the first child so we are freaking out about everything. We got her work space moved away from the the fumes, I went to personally inspect it yesterday and we are going to the doctor today. Thank you both, it's been reassuring.

Re: Hazzards
That's fantastic - so glad you were able to move your wife away from the paint fumes, in particular. Good luck at the doctor - you sound like a great husband and your wife and wee one are very fortunate to have you!

All the best.
