Kumon Maths

Hi I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a Kumon maths branch in Beijing? My kids have been doing kumon for some time and it would be great if they could continue in Beijing. I know they have branches in many major cities world wide now.

Thanks

Re: Kumon Maths

It started in the 50s in Japan with Mr Kumon teaching his kid math at home in a fun and interesting way... it has turned into a large global chain of schools. Kids seem to love it, and the results are good. (sorry, crap summary, more at their website) And yes, it is a money pit in the sense that there are the classes, the materials, the home study stuff, etc... but the results seem to be there and it is not rote learning.

But it seems while there are loads in HK and Shanghai has some too, there is some problem with Beijing because their website is a bit vague about it saying something like 'unfortuntely we can't operate in Beijing at the moment and the franchise is not available' or something like that... seems like maybe they had a problem with their licensee??

And on their international website they only list:

Shanghai KUMON Educational Software Co., Ltd.
Room 2106-2108, Aetna Tower 107 Zun Yi Road, Shanghai, China 200051
TEL : 86-21-6237-5866
FAX : 86-21-6237-5107

Kumon Hong Kong Co.,Ltd.
Unit 4301, 43F., Cosco Tower, 183 Queen's Road Central, Hong Kong
TEL : 852-2890-6533
FAX : 852-2894-8285

Maybe try contacting the Shanghai office and asking what's up with Beijing??

I don't know whether there is a Kumon center in Beijing. But I strongly recommend Beestar.org.
http://www.beestar.org/index.jsp
It is a website full of free math practice, English programs, social studies and Gifted & Talented programs. My little James started school last year, but he really hated the boring math. Then his teacher recommended Beestar to us. He began to like doing the weekly math practice, because there are interesting stories and vivid pictures for kids. He also likes checking the honor roll every week, and he is so happy when his name appears. Registering as parent, I can receive the Email from beestar every week to notice me how James was doing in beestar. I am considering registering other programs for him.
