Teething biscuits?

Anyone see teething biscuits for sale in Beijing? Where? What brands? And do you need to stop giving them to your baby when he/she has a bunch of teeth sprouting out?

Re: Teething biscuits?

Lohao City on Jingshun Lu had some. I have not been there recently so don't know about their current stock situation. You know how dodgy shopping is in BJ.

What I bought there was: Healthy Times Maple Biscuits for Teethers, Wheat, Dairy and Soy Free. Kosher, OU and USDA Organic certified.

They are very very hard to break off. I don't think they are a choking hazard, if that's what you mean. We all eat them. My 4 yr old, 2 yr old and me. We can't eat wheat, and they can't eat milk, so we're a bit limited as to snack foods here.

www.lohaocity.com or join BOCA (see signature below) for more info. best Liora

Re: Teething biscuits?

There are a few other things you can do:

1. Get a large carrod, peel, wash and freeze... let baby gnaw on it, but be sure no pieces break off so she doesn't choke. MONITOR VERY CLOSELY to be sure she doesn't break a piece off and choke!

2. Our kids LOVE these Japanese rice crackers with no sugar or salt. They disolve very fast in the mouth so don't present as much of a choking hazzard as teething biscuits. The brand is WAKODO and they sell them in the Lijia Baby Catalogue (Autumn 2007, page 93). They are in a light green box, with a picture on the front of what looks like spinach and two crackers. Our 8 month old has these broken up as her finger food snack, and our toddler still keeps trying to steal them.
(you can get them cheaper at Eugene Club and City Super in Hong Kong).

3. Put some water on a corner of a baby wash cloth and put in the freeezer... baby will love sucking the cold cloth in her mouth. Remember to leave half the wash cloth dry so she can hold it.

4. DISTRACTION is the number one help for teething... once they are distracted they don't think about it anymore... which is why they often cry most at the beginning of nap or sleep time as they are 'bored' and remember their mouth is a bit sore.

5. If she does get a fever, which can sometimes happen, baby paracetamol in the amount advised by the Dr before bed can help.

6. With any teething foods, be very careful she doesn't break a piece off and choke... never leave her alone with any food items. This is a very serious issue, so be sure everyone in the house knows that she must be monitored closely if eating a teething biscuit, carrot, or similar.

Good luck, and it does pass soon, really!!!
