Pakistan Embassy School - Beijing
- 582 reads
Hi all,
I have four children, that will join me here in Beijing this summer. Due to the International School fees here, this will transform us from doing fairly well to doing fairly poorly financially. I have found only two schools which are inexpensive enough for me to bring my entire family here and that sound satisfactory academically: Kinstar International and The Pakistan Embassy School. I have checked out Kinstar and, from the little I can see by a quick look and talk there, it seems ok. But, like the expensive schools, it is out in Shunyi. I don't want to commute into the CBD (where my office is) and I don't want the kids to commute out - have heard horror stories of both.
I would like to know if anyone has any first-hand experience with the Pakistan Embassy School. I should say my children are 9, 7, and 6 (all boys), are half-American/half-Thai and speak both those languages. I have seen two posts in here that says it seems ok and the staff nice. But I am wondering if anyone reading this is/has actually sent their children here. Would you kindly post your opinion of the place here and/or send me a message? Thank you very much for any information you can provide.
Regards
Bill

My friend went to that school, it was ok for him.
But that was like 10 years ago.

Re: Pakistan Embassy School - Beijing
I know of at least one child who attends the Pakistani School, and both she and her parents seems pleased with the education she is receiving. She is in Kindergarten, however, so your experience with older children may be different. Another option may be the Indian School, which is also state run. People say that both of these schools offer an English quality education at an Asian price.
Please keep in mind, as well, that everything in Beijing is negotiable. The fees stated on the websites of international schools are what companies who provide education packages for their families pay. There are always sibling discounts, scholarships and "understandings" reached between schools and the families they serve. This can be especially true at the newer schools (BCIS, Canadian School come to mind).
Good luck, and I don't envy you the challange. Around here we are just thanking our lucky starts that our daughter is not yet 3 and bilingual, because if we had to pay for international schooling right now, we'd likely end up living in a cardboard box out front. I have no idea what we will do in the future though.

Re: Pakistan Embassy School - Beijing
Before reading my post I want to inform you my dear reader that my native language is not English. So some slight mistakes in wording and grammar are expected.
The second thing is that I realize the date of original post (May 3, 2007) which means that I would not immidiately address the author of the topic.
My daughter studies in Pakistan Embassy school. She is from Kazakhstan and she enjoys studying there with other school-mates who represent different countries. The atmosphere there is quite worm and friendly. The education proccess is balanced. The teachers are mostly from Pakistan and they are professional enough to bring the child to proper educational level and meet the needed standards (still think that much depends on home work and your engagmnet in proccess at home). What is important for me that the school has security guarantees and composes the part of Embassy complex. Also they study untill 13.40 which gives me opportunity to send my child to dance, figure skating classes etc. All childern are friendly.
The important thing is the price. Once I tried in Beijing to put my child in international school but the price of course was very high. I was baring in mind and finally droped that idea. I have experience of living in Malaysia and South Korea. Even the living prices are much higher there still you can get your child enrolled in good international schools there for $9000-14 000. Here I can not afford 150 000 RMB price taking into account that the fees in international schools are countinuing to grow due to RMB appreciation and some artificial tendances in fee policy among international schools here. I think that such fees are not reflecting the real situation and forming an educational burble.
Some tips about national composition and prices.
There are a lot of children from Pakistan, Middle East and African countries there. Quite a few children from Korea, East Asia. Some childern from Europe. In total may be more than 30 countries. I think given the interational school price tendancies the geography in reasonable-price Pakistan school is going to widen. May be they should lift fees a little and redirrect the balance in infrastructure of the school like new tables, chairs, boards, walls, decorations, canteen or cafeteria. It would be timely and nice.
About the price. The fees differ. I pay about $1440 per three-months simester. It makes 4320 per year. There are some additional payments for depsit and examination fee but they are quite affordable.
The main idea is that if you do not have a disired budget or have more than two children (to enroll) you can try Pakistan school as an option.
