Daycare in Beijing

Hi I am new to Beijing and I have been trying to find daycare for my one year old. I only want her to go for a few hours once or twice a week just so she can interact with other children and I can get a few things done. Does anyone know of anything like this in the Dongcheng district (within the second ring road.)
cheers -)

Re: Daycare in Beijing
I'm not sure that what you are looking for is available for a one-year old. Most nursery schools/kindergartens won't take kids younger than two -- the intl schools offer expensive half-day programs, while the Chinese schools are cheaper and usually full day.
Frankly, your best (and most cost effective) bet would be to hire an ayi and have her take your daughter to the local park where she'll have countless opportunities to interact with other kids and start picking up some Chinese.
I'm not sure what part of Dongcheng you are in, but there is a large group of kids that play in Nanguan Park (near the Russian Embassy), which I used to visit with my daughter when she was younger. The play area is pretty decent (trampoline, swings, tricycles, junior-sized basketball hoop ...) and the park has a little lake and a far-out fountain. When you're done, you can reward yourself by getting a Chicken Kiev at Traktirr, which abuts the south side of the park...

Thanks for the hot tips adam,
I was at Traktirr the other night having that exact meal so I know exactly where it is. I was trying to avoid the ayi option, however I guess because a lot of people have an ayi there isn't a great need for daycare.
I will keep searching, you never know your luck in a big city!
Cheers -)

Hi Charlie I have an yi but I really dont mind sending my 14 months old daughter to daycare for few hours for interaction with other kids. Should you come across one which is not too expensive, kindly let me know.
Thanks

Hi
Just to jump on the bandwagon as well, I would be interested in finding this for our son in the next few months. At his age, I would like him to socialise and interact with others for a couple of hours, once or twice a week.
We don't have an ayi and am not that keen on getting one.
Thanks

Re: Daycare in Beijing
I have to second Adam: most preschools here start at age 2. There are options for kids under 2 (like the free baby playgroup at the Children's House Montessori), but they all require that a parent or caregiver attend. I get the sense that you are looking for a daycare or preschool that lets you drop your kid off to play with other kids for an hour or two while you go off and run errands or relax for a second, so these might not be ideal.
Out of curiosity, what are your hesitations about hiring an ayi for childcare?

Cate, do you by any chance have any good contacts for ayi? I am totally frustrated with the Filipinas (3) I hired. Wanting to try out local ayi but my daughter is at the age where she is imitating all actions and my concern is she following the nose digging and coughing up phlegm that could wake the death.
