Shengtangxuan 盛唐轩

Shengtangxuan’s owner Tang Qiliang, an ethnic Manchurian in his 80s, started crafting toys 70 years ago and a number of his toys are part of collections in the China Art Gallery and the Capital Museum. In 2003 he and his daughter opened this shop in Guozijian to preserve his time-honored handicrafts. Made from wood, paper and clay, many of Tang’s toys take their influence from classic tales and include figurines from Journey to the West and the legend of The Eight Immortals Crossing the Sea. The store also sells wooden spinning tops (RMB 20), toy drums (RMB 10), paper windmills (RMB 7-10) and Peking Opera masks (RMB 80).
